Why broot.ca?

I no longer like it — it sounds “aggressive” — but I like that it’s short. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Originally, I picked it because of a few double meanings that only I would find amusing:

• It sounds like “B Root”, one of the DNS Root Servers. I find Internet internet infrastructure very interesting, though I have no real connection to that particular DNS root name server.
• It sounds like “be root”, like the default Linux/Unix administrative users.
• It sounds like “brute”, as in “brute force attack”. My career thus far has revolved around cybersecurity, so this felt cute too.

All that said, the main reason is that it’s short. :-)
